Southern Style Cheesy Jalapeno Grits

This southern side is kicked up a notch with the addition of jalapenos, cheddar and pepperjack cheese. The spicy grits are perfect for shrimp and grits or as a side to your favorite Southern meals.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Quick Cook Grits
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 jalapeños diced
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • ½ cup pepperjack cheese shredded
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a medium pot and saute jalapenos for about 3 minutes.
  2. Mix in the salt, milk, and water and bring to a hard boil.
  3. Whisk in the grits slowly, making sure they do not stick to the bottom.
  4. Reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook for 7 minutes.
  5. Remove the lid and stir the grits well, making sure it is well combined then stir in the cheese and stir for about 1 minute to combine.
  6. Cover to keep warm until needed.
