Sparkling Red Wine Sangria Recipe
Description
Sparkling Red Wine Sangria Recipe mixes a full bottle of red wine with chopped Pink Lady apple, quartered orange slices, orange liqueur such as triple sec or Cointreau, and apple juice. The combined mixture is chilled for at least an hour, preferably six hours, to allow the flavors to meld. When ready to serve, the sangria is poured over ice with some of the soaked fruit, then topped with about 2 ounces of prosecco or any dry sparkling wine to provide a crisp, bubbly finish.
The sangria has a balanced fruit-forward character with the sweetness of apple juice and citrus notes paired with the depth of red wine. The prosecco adds a lively sparkle and lightens the drink, enhancing refreshment. The pieces of apple and orange in the glass add an attractive visual element and a pleasant fruity bite.
This sangria is ideal for entertaining or casual sipping when a slightly festive and fruit-infused sparkling wine beverage is desired. The recipe allows for some flexibility by substituting sparkling water or sparkling apple cider for prosecco, adjusting the level of carbonation and sweetness to taste.
Ingredients
- 750 mL red wine bottle
- 1 apple cored and chopped, Pink Lady variety
- 1 orange quartered and sliced
- ¼ cup orange liqueur (triple sec of Cointreau)
- ¼ cup apple juice
- 350 mL prosecco (or dry sparkling wine)
Instructions
- In a glass container, combine wine, fruit, liqueur, and apple juice. Refrigerate a minimum of 1 hour, but at least 6 hours is recommended.
- To serve, pour sangria and a scoop of fruit into an ice-filled glass leaving room to float the bubbles. Top with about 2 ounces prosecco, depending on the size of your glass.
Notes
- You can substitute sparkling water or sparkling apple cider for prosecco to reduce alcohol or alter sweetness.
- Allow the wine and fruit mixture to chill for at least six hours to fully blend the flavors before adding the sparkling wine.
- Use Pink Lady apples for a balanced tart and sweet flavor in the sangria.
