Turmeric Golden Milk Recipe
Description
The Turmeric Golden Milk recipe brings together unsweetened almond or coconut milk with aromatic spices including turmeric, cinnamon, and ginger. These ingredients are warmed gently in a saucepan alongside coconut oil and a pinch of black pepper, which enhances the absorption of turmeric. The result is a smooth, golden-hued beverage, lightly sweetened with maple syrup or honey.
The preparation involves heating until warm but not boiling, preserving the delicate flavors and preventing bitterness. When fresh turmeric and ginger are used, straining the liquid ensures a smooth texture. The drink delivers a mellow blend of earthy and sweet notes with a faint spice background.
This golden milk makes a comforting choice for a warm morning or evening drink. Leftovers can be kept refrigerated up to two days and reheated gently on the stove without prolonged boiling to maintain flavor integrity. Alternatively, a pre-made golden paste can speed preparation for daily use.
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups almond milk unsweetened and full fat, or coconut milk
- 1 cinnamon stick more as garnish at the end, or 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 inches Turmeric sliced or 1 ½ teaspoon ground turmeric spice, fresh
- 1 inch ginger sliced or ½ teaspoon ground ginger, fresh
- 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil
- Pinch black pepper
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or more to taste, or honey
Instructions
- Place milk, cinnamon stick, turmeric, ginger, coconut oil, and black pepper in a small saucepan.
- Cook, stirring frequently, until warm but not boiling.
- Give it a taste and add in your sweetener.
- If you used fresh turmeric and ginger, strain it to your cups. If not, divide it in two mugs.
- If preferred, sprinkle with ground cinnamon. Serve.
Notes
- Leftover golden milk keeps well in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and should be reheated gently on the stove without boiling for best flavor.
- Calories vary with choice of milk; almond milk is lower calorie than coconut milk.
- Using a pre-made golden paste can shorten preparation time for busy routines.
