Walnut Sage Pesto

Walnut Sage Pesto is a flavorful, herb-based sauce that combines fresh sage and parsley with toasted walnuts, garlic, lemon juice, and Parmesan cheese. The pesto is creamy and rich with savory nuttiness, citrus brightness, and herbal depth. It can be used on pasta, as a spread, or a condiment to add layered flavor to dishes.

Description

This Walnut Sage Pesto blends fresh sage and parsley leaves with toasted walnuts and garlic, creating an earthy, aromatic foundation. Lemon juice and zest add a fresh citrus note that brightens the mixture, while salt and black pepper season it simply. The olive oil, slowly incorporated, emulsifies the sauce giving it a smooth, rich texture. Finally, freshly grated Parmesan cheese adds savory umami and richness, balancing the herbs and nuts.

The toasted walnuts provide a deep, buttery flavor base that complements the pungent sage and fresh parsley. The lemon contributes a lively tanginess, making the pesto bright and complex without overpowering the herbs. This versatile sauce is ideal for drizzling over pasta, spreading on bread, or using as a finishing touch for roasted vegetables and grilled meats.

Toasting the walnuts before blending enhances the nuttiness significantly. The pesto can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week, maintaining its fresh flavors. Adjust the oil quantity slightly for desired consistency.
