1 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake
Description
The 1 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake starts by mixing dry ingredients—flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder—directly in a greased microwave-safe mug. Wet ingredients such as granulated sugar, neutral cooking oil, vanilla extract, and whole milk are added and whisked to a smooth consistency. Adjusting the milk amount may be needed to avoid too thick a batter.
Chocolate chips placed on top melt during microwaving, adding texture and richness. Microwaving for approximately 60 seconds cooks the cake, and additional short bursts of cooking ensure it sets without overcooking. The finished cake has a tender crumb and can be enhanced by serving warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or other toppings.
Ingredient quality affects flavor, with good cocoa powder, fresh milk, and pure vanilla extract providing the best results. Greasing the mug prevents sticking. Cooking time varies per microwave, so careful monitoring is advised to avoid dryness.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ tablespoon cocoa powder unsweetened
- 2 tablespoon sugar granulated white
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 tablespoon neutral cooking oil vegetable oil or canola oil, generic cooking oil
- 2 tablespoon milk + extra few teaspoons if needed to adjust the texture of cake mix if too thick, whole
- ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon chocolate chips semi sweet
Instructions
- Grease your microwaveable mug with cooking oil, alternatively, you can spray it with oil.
- Sift together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder directly into the mug. Add in the rest of the ingredients – granulated white sugar, oil, vanilla extract, and milk.
- Whisk everything until smooth. Sprinkle a few choco chips on tip, this step is optional, but I highly recommend you don’t skip it.Note: if the cake mix is too thick add an extra teaspoon of milk to adjust the consistency to make it into a smooth mix.
- Cook in the microwave for about a minute.
- Keep a close eye on the mug cake. Test it after it’s cooked in the microwave for 60 seconds. If the toothpick tester comes out dry, remove the mug from the microwave. If the toothpick tester comes out wet with cake batter stuck to it, place it back into the microwave cook for an additional 10 to 15 seconds, and test again.
- Let it rest on the counter for a few seconds. Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge sauce, and caramel syrup drizzled on top.
Notes
- Use fresh, high-quality cocoa powder and whole milk for better flavor and texture.
- Grease the mug thoroughly with oil or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Start microwaving for 60 seconds and test doneness, adding 10 to 15 seconds if needed; avoid overcooking to keep moisture.
- Granulated white sugar is preferred over powdered sugar to retain proper texture.
- Neutral-flavored oils like vegetable or canola are recommended over olive oil to avoid affecting taste.
