10-min. Easy Chinese Silken Tofu

This Easy Chinese Silken Tofu recipe highlights delicate silken tofu topped with a savory sauce of sautéed onions, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and a touch of sugar. The tofu is drained carefully and kept chilled before being dressed with this warm sauce. The dish offers a soft, custard-like texture contrasted with the richly flavored, aromatic sauce, ready in about ten minutes.

Description

The recipe begins by gently draining the silken tofu using its packaging plastic wrap to hold it in place while excess water is removed and absorbed with paper towels. The tofu is then transferred carefully to a plate and refrigerated to maintain its shape and chill before serving.

The sauce is prepared by sautéing finely diced yellow onion, green onion, and garlic in vegetable oil until the onions turn translucent. Soy sauce, white sugar, and sesame oil are incorporated and cooked briefly to blend the flavors. This warm sauce is poured over the chilled tofu just before serving, optionally garnished with sesame seeds and fresh green onions for added texture and flavor.

This straightforward preparation showcases the soft, silky texture of the tofu balanced by the savory and slightly sweet sauce. It works well as a light appetizer or side dish in a Chinese-inspired meal.
