10-min. Easy Folded Kimbap
Description
The 10-minute Folded Kimbap assembles cooked short grain rice, a tuna-mayo mixture, kimchi, and a pan-fried egg on a sheet of nori (seaweed). The preparation involves frying the egg to the preferred doneness and shaping it roughly to fit within a quadrant of the nori. The nori sheet is scored vertically halfway up to create separate sections.
Each ingredient is spread into a quadrant: tuna-mayo in one, kimchi in another, cooked rice, and the egg in the remaining ones. Folding the nori from the bottom left quadrant upwards encapsulates the fillings into a neat square package, providing a portable bite. This method preserves the distinct ingredients while creating a unified snack.
The result is a flavorful, texturally interesting snack blending the spiced and fermented kimchi, creamy tuna-mayo, and the richness of egg and rice wrapped in crisp seaweed. It is best eaten soon after assembly to keep the nori from becoming soggy.
Ingredients
- 1 heet nori or gim
- ⅓ cup short grain rice cooked
- ¼ cup tuna strained, canned
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise or sub with American mayo, Japanese style
- ⅓ cup kimchi
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- First, combine strained tuna and mayo and mix well. Set aside.
- Heat vegetable oil in a small pan on medium heat. Fry your egg easy over for 3-5 minutes depending on how jammy you like your egg. Try to shape the egg so it fits into a 3 x 3 inch square. Set aside.
- Place a sheet of nori rough side up vertically facing you. Using clean scissor a vertical slit halfway up the sheet.
- Evenly spread the tuna mayo mixture in the bottom left quadrant.
- Place the fried egg in the top right quadrant.
- Spread kimchi in the top left quadrant.
- Lastly, evenly spread hot cooked rice in the bottom right quadrant.
- Fold the kimbap starting from the bottom left quadrant upwards until you form a square. Enjoy immediately!
