Description
This slow cooker chili uses a package of 15-bean soup mix featuring a range of beans providing different textures and flavors. Ground beef is browned first to develop flavor and drained before being combined with onions, diced green bell pepper, and beef broth in the slow cooker. Part of the chili seasoning mix is added at this stage, allowing the beans and vegetables to soften and blend over several hours on high heat.
After the initial cook, canned diced tomatoes with chilies, tomato paste, and the remaining chili seasoning are incorporated to enrich the chili’s flavor and thicken its consistency. Ingredients
- 20 ounces 15 bean soup 1 package, HamBeens brand
- 1 pound ground beef lean
- 1 onion diced
- 1 green bell pepper diced
- 14.5 ounces canned diced tomatoes 1 can, 14.5 ounces, with chilies
- 6 ounces tomato paste 1 can
- 8 cups beef broth
- 1.5 ounces chili seasoning mix 1 packet
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Rinse beans and remove any debris.
- Brown beef over medium heat until no pink remains. Drain any fat.
- In a 6 QT slow cooker, combine beans, beef, onion, peppers, and broth.
- Stir in Hurst's ham flavor packet and ½ of the chili seasoning mix.
- Cover and cook on high for 5-6 hours or until beans are tender.
- Add in diced tomatoes, tomato paste and remainder of chili seasoning mix.
- Cook for additional 30 minutes.
