15 Minutes Lemon Garlic Shrimp Recipe
Description
This lemon garlic shrimp recipe focuses on highlighting the natural sweetness and tenderness of large shrimp through a brief sauté in butter and olive oil flavored with finely minced garlic. The garlic is gently cooked in fat to release aroma without browning, preserving its delicate flavor. Seasoning with simple salt, black pepper, and a moderate amount of red chili flakes provides a balanced mild heat and seasoning.
The shrimp are cooked quickly, just until they turn pink and opaque, ensuring a tender texture without toughness. Adding lemon juice and an extra tablespoon of butter off heat creates a light, tangy, and richly flavored coating that defines the dish. Chopped fresh parsley brightens the presentation and adds herbal notes.
This dish pairs well as a topping for pasta or served over rice, offering a saucy and flavorful seafood option with a bright citrus finish. The instructions mention the option to use white wine instead of water for added flavor complexity and to adjust chili flakes for extra heat.
Care is taken to avoid overcooking shrimp, and using fresh garlic is preferred, although garlic powder can be substituted. The recipe can accommodate various seasoning inspirations such as Italian, Cajun, or jerk seasoning based on personal choice.
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ lbs large shrimp peeled and deveined, or extra large shrimp or prawns
- 2+ 2 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic finely chopped/minced
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- ½ teaspoon red chili flakes
- lemon juice of 1
- 1 tablespoon water can use 2 tablespoon dry white wine instead, if needed
- parsley fresh, for garnish
Instructions
- Clean and de-vein shrimps if they aren’t already cleaned. Leave the tail on if you prefer. Pat the shrimp dry.
- Melt butter and olive oil in a pan.
- Sauté finely minced garlic in the butter-olive oil mix. I always prefer to sauté garlic in oil, as it releases all its wonderful flavors into the oil. Do not brown garlic. Simply sauté until the garlic is fragrant. Alternatively – use garlic powder instead of fresh garlic.
- Add cleaned shrimps to the pan.
- Add salt, pepper, and red chili flakes.
- Stir well.
- Cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until shrimp is pink in color.
- Flip and cook the shrimp for another minute.
- Turn off the heat. Add butter and lemon juice. Stir to melt butter.
- Do not overcook shrimp.
- Adjust salt and pepper if it needs extra seasoning.
- Garnish with fresh parsley.
- Serve saucy shrimp with pasta or over a bed of rice.
Notes
- Use fresh garlic for best flavor, but garlic powder can be substituted.
- Do not overcook shrimp to keep them tender.
- Adding a splash of dry white wine instead of water enhances flavor if desired.
- Adjust red chili flakes to control spiciness.
- Optional seasonings include Italian, Cajun, Creole, Jerk, or Curry powder.
- Leave tails on or off depending on preference.
