3 Ingredient Barbecue Soy Chicken Drumsticks
Description
3 Ingredient Barbecue Soy Chicken Drumsticks are coated with a mixture of barbecue sauce, soy sauce, and garlic, then baked until cooked through. After initial baking covered in foil, they are broiled uncovered to develop a nicely browned, slightly crispy surface. The combination of barbecue and soy sauces gives a harmonious mix of sweet, salty, and umami notes.
The chicken’s texture is tender and juicy thanks to the controlled baking time and final broil for color. This dish serves well over rice, mashed potatoes, noodles, or steamed vegetables, making it a versatile protein option for a meal.
An optional drizzle of sesame oil before baking can enhance the flavor profile with a nutty aroma. Adding vinegar can help cut through some of the sweetness if preferred. Adjust seasoning with salt to taste.
Ingredients
- 8 chicken drumstick skin on or off, rinse chicken and pat dry with paper towel
- ½ cup barbecue sauce
- ¼ cup soy sauce low sodium
- 1 tablespoon garlic minced, or garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar or any white vinegar - optional to cut through some of the sweetness
- 1 drizzle sesame oil about 1-2 teaspoons, optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 430°F | 220°C.
- Arrange drumsticks into a baking dish. Pour in the sauces and vinegar and add the garlic. As an option, add a drizzle of sesame oil and vinegar, and rub the sauces into the chicken until evenly coated. Season with salt to taste (about ½-1 teaspoon).
- Cover with foil and bake in the oven for 25 minutes, or until just cooked through.
- Change oven settings to broil/grill on medium heat. Uncover and allow chicken to broil until golden browned. Flip drumsticks and allow to brown on the other side.
- Serve over rice, with mashed potatoes, noodles or steamed vegetables!
Notes
- Adding sesame oil before baking enhances the aroma and flavor.
- Rice wine vinegar or white vinegar can be added to balance the sweetness.
- Season with salt according to personal preference before baking.
