3 Ingredient Donut Hole Recipe

This 3 Ingredient Donut Hole recipe uses refrigerated biscuit dough cut into small pieces, cooked until golden, then coated with melted butter and cinnamon sugar. The preparation can be done in an air fryer, oven, or by frying in oil, producing warm, bite-sized sweet treats with a soft inside and cinnamon-sugar crust.

Description

The recipe starts with refrigerated biscuit dough cut into roughly one-inch pieces or small circles. These pieces are cooked in an air fryer at 350°F for a few minutes until golden and cooked through. Alternatively, donut holes can be baked in the oven or fried in hot oil until all sides are browned. After cooking, the pieces are brushed with melted butter and tossed in cinnamon sugar, forming a sweet, slightly crunchy coating.

The result is a portable, sweet snack with a soft biscuit-like center and a warm, buttery cinnamon sugar exterior. The versatility in cooking methods allows adapting to equipment and preferences. The recipe uses minimal ingredients and steps, making it accessible for a quick homemade treat.

Donut holes are best served warm to enjoy the tender texture and melty butter coating.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 roll Biscuits canned, refrigerated
  • ½ cup butter melted
  • ½ cup cinnamon sugar
  • neutral cooking oil for frying, not required for air fryer or oven, generic cooking oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat air fryer to 350°F.
  2. Separate biscuits and use a small cutter to cut out 1" circles. If you do not have a cutter, cut the biscuits into 6 pieces each and gently roll them in your hands.
  3. Place in a single layer in the air fryer. Cook 2-3 minutes or until golden and cooked through.
  4. Drizzle donut holes with some of the butter and shake the bowl to coat them.
  5. Place cinnamon sugar in a bowl with a lid or a freezer bag. Add warm buttered donut holes and shake to combine. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Crescent rolls can be substituted for biscuits for a slightly different texture.
  • Homemade cinnamon sugar is made by mixing ½ cup sugar with 2 teaspoons cinnamon.
  • For frying, heat ½ inch of oil to 350°F and cook donut holes about 60-90 seconds, turning to brown evenly.
  • Baking donut holes in the oven takes about 10-13 minutes at 375°F until golden.
  • Nutrition is calculated for a quarter of the recipe as some butter and sugar remain after coating.
