4th of July Cookies
Description
This cookie recipe blends sugar, brown sugar, butter, and vegetable oil to form a soft batter enriched with eggs and vanilla. Baking powder and baking soda help the cookies rise and spread appropriately, resulting in a chewy yet structured texture. The addition of chopped and whole red, white, and blue M&M's integrates bursts of color and chocolate throughout the dough and on top.
After mixing, the dough is portioned into balls placed on a greased baking sheet, with a few M&M's pressed on top for appearance. Baking at 350°F for 7-8 minutes gently cooks the cookies, preserving softness inside. The small baking window is key to prevent overbaking and maintain chewiness.
These cookies can be chilled or frozen either as dough logs or individual balls, with M&M's added just before baking for best texture. Once baked, they keep fresh in an airtight container for several days, and freezing extends their shelf life. Tossing a slice of bread in the container helps maintain moisture and softness.
