5-Minute Honey French Baked Chicken Breasts
Description
The method combines a sauce of oil, honey, cider vinegar, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, dry onion soup mix, and salt shaken together before being poured over seasoned chicken breasts in a baking dish. The chicken is baked uncovered until fully cooked, around 35 to 40 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the meat. Basting the chicken with pan juices just before serving enhances moisture and flavor. This slow bake in an oven at 350°F produces tender breasts with a sticky, sweet-and-sour glaze influenced by honey and vinegar.
The sauce’s combination offers a balance of sweetness from honey and chili sauce, tang from cider vinegar, and umami from Worcestershire sauce and onion soup mix. The baking process intensifies these flavors while keeping the chicken juicy. This dish pairs well with simple sides like vegetables or mashed potatoes that can absorb the pan sauce.
The recipe scales well; halving sauce amounts suits smaller servings, and the sauce can be pre-made and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week to apply as needed. Oven temperature and cook time remain consistent for different chicken quantities.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 2 ½ lbs. total)
- ½ cup olive oil
- ½ cup honey
- ¼ cup cider vinegar
- ¼ cup chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons onion soup mix from a 1 ounce packet, dry
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F (180C). Spray a large, shallow baking dish with cooking spray.
- Season chicken with salt and pepper to taste and place in the prepared baking dish.
- In a large jar with a lid, shake together olive oil, honey, cider vinegar, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, dry soup mix, and salt until completely combined.
- Pour sauce over chicken.
- Bake, uncovered, for about 35-40 minutes (or until chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F). Baste with pan sauce just before serving.
Notes
- To serve fewer people, halve all ingredients and bake two chicken breasts in a smaller dish; cooking time remains the same.
- You can prepare the sauce ahead and store it refrigerated for up to one week; shake well before using.
- This recipe is adapted from the Mountain Elegance cookbook.
