7 Layer Bars
Description
7 Layer Bars begin with a crust made by combining graham cracker crumbs with melted butter and salt, pressed evenly into a baking pan. Sweetened condensed milk is poured over this base to soak into the crust and bind the layers. Half of the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and chopped pecans are sprinkled over the milk, followed by a layer of sweetened shredded coconut. The remaining chips and pecans cover the top, gently pressed to adhere during baking.
Baked at 350°F, the bars develop a golden top and a center that remains slightly soft and delicate after cooling. The combination of the buttery crust, sweet condensed milk, nutty crunch, and mellow chocolate and butterscotch chips creates a rich and layered flavor profile with varying textures from crispy to chewy.
These bars can be customized by substituting different nuts or chip flavors to suit personal preferences. Cooling completely before slicing ensures clean edges and preservation of layers.
They keep well stored in an airtight container for up to five days, making them convenient for preparing ahead or enjoying over several days.
