7 Layer Taco Casserole Recipe

The 7 Layer Taco Casserole layers seasoned ground beef with refried beans, melted Mexican blend cheese, and crunchy Tostitos bite-sized chips, then finishes with fresh lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. The bake at 400°F crisps the chips perfectly under the melted cheese, providing a pleasing contrast of textures. This casserole is a hearty, layered take on taco flavors that's easy to assemble and served immediately for the best texture.

Description

The 7 Layer Taco Casserole starts with ground beef seasoned with taco spices and salsa, layered over a base of creamy refried beans in a casserole dish. A generous layer of Mexican blend cheese melts over the meat, topped with a single layer of bite-sized round tortilla chips that crisp up in the oven. Baking at 400°F for 15-20 minutes melds the layers and crisps the chips without burning. Once out of the oven, it is topped with shredded iceberg lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sour cream to add freshness and creaminess to the warm, layered casserole. This dish combines a variety of textures from creamy beans, savory beef, melted cheese, and crunchy chips, making it a simple, satisfying meal component or main dish.

The fresh toppings add a cool contrast and can be adjusted to taste. The casserole pairs well with a simple side salad or can accompany other Mexican-inspired dishes.

For convenience, leftover taco meat can be used in place of freshly cooked beef to speed preparation. Serving promptly ensures the chips remain crisp and the layers distinct.
