Agua de Sandia
Description
Agua de Sandia combines fresh watermelon, water, and homemade simple syrup to create a smooth, refreshing drink. The process involves pureeing cubed watermelon with water and simple syrup, then straining it to remove pulp for a clean texture. Adding fresh lime juice lends a tart brightness that balances the sweetness. The resulting beverage is chilled until cold, enhancing its cooling effect and making it a pleasant thirst quencher.
The natural sweetness of ripe watermelon and the subtle sweetness from the simple syrup create a lightly sweetened, fresh flavor profile. Lime slices and mint leaves serve as garnish options, bringing aromatic and visual appeal to the drink. This agua fresca is a great choice for serving at gatherings, picnics, or any hot day where a light, fruity drink is welcome.
Simple syrup can be prepared ahead and stored separately in the refrigerator. The finished watermelon agua fresca keeps well in the fridge for up to three days; be sure to stir it before serving, as settling may occur. Leftover simple syrup also lasts about ten days refrigerated, allowing for quick preparation when desired.
