Chile Relleno Casserole

Chile Relleno Casserole layers whole green chiles stuffed with cubes of jack cheese, covered with a baked egg batter, and topped with shredded cheddar cheese. The egg and milk mixture sets into a firm yet tender custard, binding the chiles and cheese. Baked to a golden brown, the casserole offers creamy, cheesy textures alongside the mild heat from the green chiles.

Description

This casserole begins by stuffing canned whole green chiles with mild jack cheese cubes and arranging them in a baking dish. An egg-based batter combining eggs, milk, flour, and baking powder is whisked and poured over the chiles, then topped with shredded cheddar cheese. Baking at 350°F causes the egg mixture to set, forming a firm but moist custard that holds the chiles and cheese together.

The dish balances the creaminess of cheeses and eggs with the smoky, slightly spicy green chiles. The top’s golden color adds a pleasing contrast in texture. It’s a convenient way to enjoy chile relleno flavors without individual stuffing or frying.

Serving this casserole as a main or side offers a straightforward, comforting dish with melded cheesy and chile elements suitable for casual meals.
