Air Fried Ice Cream Recipe

This Air Fried Ice Cream Recipe features ice cream balls coated with flour, egg whites, and crushed cereal to create a crispy exterior after air frying. The process involves freezing the coated ice cream multiple times to ensure the coating crisps without melting the interior. The cereal adds texture and flavor contrast, making this a distinctive fried dessert.

Description

The recipe forms balls from vanilla (or preferred flavor) ice cream, which are coated first with flour, then egg whites, and finally with finely crushed cereal before being frozen solid. Air frying at a moderate temperature crisps the outer cereal layer quickly, resulting in a crunchy shell surrounding soft ice cream inside. The use of crushed cereal like Cinnamon Toast Crunch lends a sweet, textured crust that contrasts cold, creamy ice cream.

Only one ball is cooked at a time to ensure even coating crispness and prevent melting. The complete freezing steps are critical to maintaining the interior's shape and temperature. Variations in cereal types are possible, offering flavor flexibility.

The dessert is suited for serving individually and is a novelty where fried desserts are desired without deep frying.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 48 oz vanilla ice cream or your favorite flavor, tub
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3 cups cereal such as Cinnamon Toast Crunch *see notes for other suggestions, easy to crush
  • 3 egg white

Instructions

  1. Work quickly when handling the ice cream for best results.
  2. Scoop out about 1 cup of ice cream per ball. This will give you 6 balls from a carton. Shape it into a ball and place it in a muffin tin. Place in the freezer for at least 1 hour.
  3. Take them out of the freezer and roll each ball in the flour. Use your hands to make sure the balls are round. Put them back in the freezer for another hour.
  4. Put the cereal in a zippered bag and use a rolling pin to crush it. Or crush it in a food processor,
  5. Separate the egg whites from the yolks and whisk them together in a bowl.
  6. Take each ball out of the freezer. Roll it in the egg whites, then immediately in the cereal. Use your hands as necessary to press the cereal into the ball.
  7. Put them back in the freezer for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  8. When ready to cook, preheat the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 2 minutes.
  9. Only cook one ball at a time. Put it on a piece of aluminum foil to make it easy to take in and out of the air fryer.
  10. Put the ball in the air fryer and cook at 350 F for 2-3 minutes.
  11. Use the foil to lift it out and serve it right away with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Shape ice cream balls quickly and keep them frozen solid at every coating stage to prevent melting during cooking.
  • Use a muffin tin to hold the ice cream balls when freezing for easier handling.
  • Preheat the air fryer before cooking to achieve a crisp coating.
  • Cook only one ball at a time on foil to ease transfer and maintain coating integrity.
  • Try different cereals for varied flavor and texture; Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, Fruity Pebbles, or Fruit Loops work well.
  • Smaller ice cream balls can increase yield from a carton, allowing up to eight portions.
