Air Fryer Apples
Description
Air Fryer Apples feature peeled and cored apple cubes coated in melted coconut oil, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Cooking in the air fryer at 380°F crisps the cube edges while keeping the centers tender. This yields a lightly caramelized, flavorful apple preparation with a hint of spice. The apples are then tossed again with maple syrup to enhance sweetness and provide a glossy finish.
The texture is both slightly crispy on the outside due to the air fryer and soft inside, preserving the fruit's moisture. The use of refined coconut oil prevents any coconut flavor from overpowering the apples, supporting the cinnamon and maple syrup's complementary sweetness.
This recipe yields a fruit side or dessert that can be enjoyed warm right after cooking. It pairs well with vanilla ice cream or can be served atop oatmeal for added flavor and warmth. Leftovers may be refrigerated but are best fresh to enjoy their texture and taste.
Maple syrup can be substituted with honey, and olive oil may replace coconut oil if needed. The apples should not overcrowd the fryer basket to ensure even cooking, and reheating is best done in short bursts in the microwave.
Ingredients
- 2 red apples pink lady, honey crisp, or gala, peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch bite-sized cubes
- 2 tablespoon maple syrup divided, real
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil refined has no taste, melted
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 380°F and lightly spray with non-stick spray.
- Add the peeled apple cubes into a bowl and toss with 1 Tablespoon maple syrup, coconut oil, and cinnamon.
- Add apple cubes to the heated air fryer basket. Make sure they don’t overlap too much, or else they will not cook properly.
- Air fry for 10 - 14 minutes, shaking halfway through. They should be golden, slightly crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside.
- Remove from the air fryer and toss the warm apples in 1 Tablespoon of maple syrup.
- Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream, oatmeal, or on its own!
Notes
- Substitute honey for maple syrup if preferred.
- Use refined coconut oil to avoid coconut flavor; olive oil can also work.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- Reheat gently in the microwave for 30-45 seconds to warm without overcooking.
- Enjoy within 20 minutes of cooking for optimal texture and flavor.
