Description
These Air Fryer Beignets start with a dough combining self-rising flour, sour cream, sugar, and vanilla for a mildly sweet, tender batter. After rolling and folding the dough, it is cut into small squares and rested briefly before cooking. The air fryer crisps the dough on the outside while keeping the inside soft and airy without needing to deep-fry in oil. Brushing the dough with melted butter before and during air frying helps to develop a golden crust and richer flavor.
Beignets are then dusted with powdered sugar for a light sweetness. These treats can be served warm as a breakfast or dessert option and offer the charm of traditional beignets with less mess and oil. The air fryer makes them convenient and quicker to prepare without sacrificing texture significantly.
Ingredients
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 cup sour cream or greek yogurt
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons butter unsalted
- 1/2 Cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl combine yogurt, sugar, and vanilla.
- Stir in the flour to form a dough. Once smooth and all mixed in, place it on a floured surface, using a rolling pin shape it into a rectangle, and fold it a few times.
- Shape again into a 1" inch thick rectangle and cut it into 9 pieces that resemble smaller rectangles or squares. Lightly dust each piece with flour and set them aside to rest for 15 minutes.
- Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F.
- Lightly spray the tray/basket with canola spray.
- Brush the tops of the dough with melted butter and place butter side down into the air fryer tray or basket. Brush the tops with butter.
- Air fry for 6-7 minutes or until the edges are starting to brown.
- Flip and cook for another 6-7 minutes.
- Dust with powdered sugar and serve.
