Air Fryer Chicken Breast
Description
Air Fryer Chicken Breast starts with lightly pounding the chicken breasts to even thickness, which promotes uniform cooking. The meat is coated with olive oil and a seasoning mix including kosher salt, paprika, garlic powder, dried thyme (or similar herbs), and freshly ground black pepper.
The breasts are cooked skin side down at 375°F for seven minutes, then flipped for an additional three minutes. The internal temperature is taken to 160°F before resting to allow carryover cooking, ensuring moistness and safety.
The air fryer method yields chicken with a slight crisp on the surface while keeping the interior juicy. The seasoning is straightforward but flavorful, suitable for pairing with a wide variety of sides.
Ingredients
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon thyme or oregano or other herbs, dried
- ⅛ teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- 2 (7-ounce) chicken breast boneless skinless
- 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil or avocado oil
Instructions
- Mix together the spices. In a small bowl, stir together the spices.
- Pound the chicken. Lightly pound the chicken to flatten and reduce the large bump on one end.
- Season the chicken. Drizzle the oil over the chicken and make sure the chicken is well coated. Sprinkle the seasoning blend on both sides of the chicken and rub it into the chicken with your hands.
- Air fry the chicken. Add the chicken to the air fryer and cook smooth side down for 7 minutes at 375°F (190°C). Flip the chicken over and cook an additional 3 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Remove it to a plate and let it rest for a couple of minutes. The carryover cooking will increase the internal temperature by several more degrees while it rests.
- Serve it up. Serve the chicken with your favorite sides and enjoy!
Notes
- Flatten chicken breasts gently to promote even cooking and reduce thick spots.
- Use a spice blend of salt, paprika, garlic powder, thyme, and black pepper; substitute herbs as desired.
- Let the chicken rest a few minutes after cooking so the temperature rises slightly and juices settle.
- An air fryer model such as the Ninja Max Air Fryer works effectively for this recipe.
