Air Fryer Chicken Breasts
Description
Chicken breasts about one inch thick are rubbed with olive oil and seasoned evenly with poultry seasoning and salt. The seasoned chicken is arranged in a single layer in the air fryer basket to allow circulation and cooked at 360°F. After 10 minutes, breasts are flipped and cooked another 5 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F, indicating safe doneness.
Resting the chicken for 5 minutes after cooking helps retain juices and improves texture. This method yields tender, flavorful chicken without the need for added sauces. Cooking time should be adjusted for thicker or thinner breasts to avoid dryness or undercooking.
The cooked chicken can be served warm as a main dish or used in salads, sandwiches, and other preparations. Leftovers can be stored refrigerated in an airtight container for up to three days. When cooking from frozen, increase cook time accordingly and verify internal temperature before serving.
Ingredients
- 1 pound chicken breast about two 8 ounce breasts; 1-inch thick, boneless skinless
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Rub each chicken breast with 1 teaspoon of olive oil, then season both sides with poultry seasoning and salt. I typically just shake the seasonings over the entire surface area of the chicken, which turns out to be roughly 1/4 teaspoon of salt and poultry seasoning per side.
- Arrange the chicken breasts in a single layer on the air fryer basket, to allow for good air circulation, and cook at 360ºF for 10 minutes. Flip the chicken over, and cook for 5 more minutes, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165ºF. (Chicken needs about 15 minutes of cooking time per 1-inch of thickness, so adjust accordingly if using thicker chicken breasts.)
- Remove the chicken from the air fryer so that it doesn't over-cook, then let it rest on a cutting board for 5 minutes before serving warm. Leftover cooked chicken can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Notes
- For frozen chicken breasts, add at least 15 minutes extra cooking time and always check that internal temperature reaches 165ºF.
- Cooking times vary by thickness; 1-inch thick breasts take about 15 minutes total at 360ºF.
- Removing chicken promptly at 165ºF prevents drying out and keeps meat juicy.
- Store cooked chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
