Air Fryer Chicken Legs Recipe
Description
Air Fryer Chicken Legs Recipe involves seasoning chicken drumsticks with a mixture of sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, and onion powder combined with olive oil. The chicken is placed in a preheated air fryer basket in a single layer to ensure even cooking and crisp skin.
The chicken cooks at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes total, flipping halfway through. The internal temperature should reach at least 165°F to guarantee safety, though some prefer cooking to 180-190°F for a more tender, falling-off-the-bone texture.
Proper air circulation is critical—avoid overfilling or stacking the chicken to ensure even cooking. Leftover cooked drumsticks can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days or frozen for up to three months in a freezer-safe container.
Ingredients
- 8 chicken drumstick
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt sea salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper ground
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes.
- In a small bowl combine all the spices and herbs, set mixture aside.
- Place chicken in a plastic resealable bag or bowl. Add olive oil and toss to coat.
- Add spice mixture to bag or bowl and toss to coat chicken legs.
- Place chicken drumsticks in air fryer basket and cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.
- Flip chicken drumsticks over and cook for an additional 10 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F, if it is not this temperature add a few more minutes of cooking time and check after that. I actually prefer my chicken legs about 180-190 degrees so they fall off the bone and there’s no bloody spots around the bone.
Notes
- Store cooked chicken drumsticks in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- For longer storage, freeze chicken legs in a freezer-safe airtight container for up to 3 months.
- Do not overcrowd or stack the chicken legs in the air fryer basket to allow proper air circulation and even cooking.
- Arrange the drumsticks in a single layer with skin exposed for the best crispy results.
