Air Fryer Churros
Description
Air Fryer Churros are made from puff pastry dough cut into one-inch strips, then sprayed or brushed with oil for crispness. The air fryer cooks them at 400°F until the edges are golden and flaky, giving a different texture from traditional fried churros but still satisfying a similar sweet snack craving.
The coating of cinnamon sugar, applied after brushing with melted butter, adds sweet spice and moisture that balances the crispness. Because they are baked rather than deep-fried, they have a lighter profile while still delivering sweetness and cinnamon aroma.
Serving these churros fresh ensures a crisp bite, but leftovers can be stored at room temperature in a paper bag or non-airtight container for 2-3 days to retain some of their texture. The recipe also advises not overfilling the air fryer basket to allow even cooking. These churros make a quick treat when you want a cinnamon-sugared snack without deep frying.
Ingredients
- 1 puff pastry dough sheet thawed
- cooking oil non-stick cooking spray or oil
- ¼ cup butter melted
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400° F and coat the bottom of the basket with oil or non-stick cooking spray.
- Cut the thawed puff pastry dough in half lengthwise. Then cut into one-inch strips.
- Spray both sides of the dough with cooking spray or brush with oil to make them crispiest.
- Place the strips in the air fryer basket in a single layer and cook for 6 to 8 minutes until it is golden brown.
- In a gallon size plastic bag, add the sugar and cinnamon and shake to blend.
- After removing the cooked churro from the air fryer, immediately brush each one with melted butter and place in the cinnamon-sugar mixture in the bag.
- Lightly shake the bag to coat the churro.
Notes
- Store churros in a paper bag or loosely covered container at room temperature for up to 2–3 days to maintain crispness.
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket; leave space between dough strips for even cooking and browning.
