Air Fryer Donuts 2 Ways

This Air Fryer Donuts recipe offers two options: a from-scratch yeast dough version and a shortcut using canned biscuits. Both yield light, golden donuts with a soft interior and slightly crisp exterior thanks to the air fryer’s rapid hot air circulation. The process includes letting the dough rise for the yeast method and frying in batches to ensure even cooking. A simple glaze with powdered sugar and water finishes them off, with optional sprinkles or edible dried flowers for decoration. This approach delivers fresh donuts without deep frying.

Description

The from-scratch method combines all-purpose flour, sugar, fast-acting yeast, nutmeg, salt, milk, melted butter, and egg to form a soft yeast dough. After kneading and a warm rise to double in size, the dough is rolled out and cut into donuts with holes. Another rise preps the doughnuts for air frying. They cook at 350°F in the air fryer basket for about 4-5 minutes until golden and cooked through. The biscuit shortcut uses pre-made canned biscuit dough cut and fried similarly for quick donuts without rising.

After cooking, a glaze made from powdered sugar and water is drizzled or dipped on the donuts. Optional toppings include sprinkles or edible dried flowers, adding visual interest and sweetness. The air fryer crisps the outsides without excess oil while keeping the interior tender. The recipe advises cooking donuts in batches to maintain space for air circulation, ensuring uniformness in color and texture across each batch.

These donuts work as a fresh treat for breakfast or snacks. The yeast version yields a chewier, more traditional texture, while the biscuit shortcut saves time. The light nutmeg adds subtle warmth. This method avoids deep frying, making cleanup easier and reducing heaviness. Equal sizing encourages even cooking times, and cleaning the air fryer basket between batches prevents burning leftover dough pieces.

Following these tips produces golden, soft donuts with a delicate crumb, perfect for glazing and decorating at home without the mess of frying.
