Air Fryer Duck Breast
Description
Air Fryer Duck Breast begins with seasoning skin-on duck breasts with olive oil, Chinese five-spice powder, salt, and black pepper. The duck is cooked skin side down in the air fryer at 180°C (360°F) for 7 minutes to render fat and start crisping the skin. After flipping, a sticky sauce made of teriyaki sauce, ginger puree, garlic puree, and a splash of soy sauce is brushed on the skin side. The duck is air fried for another 7 minutes to set the glaze and finish cooking.
This technique yields duck breast with a crispy, flavorful skin coated in a sticky, umami-rich glaze while maintaining moist and tender meat. The use of an air fryer simplifies cooking by providing high heat circulation and reduces fat compared to pan-frying.
Serving suggestions are not specified, but the richly flavored duck can complement simple sides and salads to balance its intensity.
The notes advise that if you have an air fryer with dual compartments, you can cook a side dish simultaneously. Cooking times may vary by model, so adjustments might be needed based on your specific air fryer.
Ingredients
- 500 g duck breast skin on
- ½ Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- ½ Tsp Chinese five-spice powder
- salt
- black pepper
For the sticky sauce
- 60 g teriyaki sauce this is the one we use, pouch
- ¼ Tsp ginger puree
- ½ Tsp Garlic puree
- soy sauce a splash
Instructions
- Start by placing the duck breasts (skin side down) into the air fryer basket. Rub the olive oil onto the tops of them and sprinkle with Chinese 5 spice and then a generous seasoning of salt and pepper. Cook duck in air fryer at 180c/360f for 7 minutes.
- Whilst the duck is cooking, add the sticky sauce ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.
- When the air fryer beeps, flip the duck breasts over so that they are now skin side up.
- Brush over the marinade over the breasts and then air fry for the same time and temp again.
- Allow to rest before slicing and serving.
Notes
- If using an air fryer with dual compartments, cook a side dish in one drawer while cooking the duck in the other for a complete meal.
- Adjust cooking times and temperatures according to your air fryer's performance, as it varies between models.
- The recipe was tested with a Cosori Air Fryer; refer to your air fryer's manual or temperature guidelines as needed.
