Air Fryer Fish Tacos
Description
This recipe calls for boneless, skinless white fish fillets, such as cod or tilapia, marinated with lime juice, olive oil, salt, black pepper, cumin, and paprika. The fish is cooked in a preheated air fryer at 370°F for 7-9 minutes until it flakes easily.
Meanwhile, a cilantro lime slaw is prepared by combining mayonnaise, fresh lime juice, sugar, garlic powder, salt, pepper, chopped cilantro, and green onion. The slaw provides a creamy, tangy contrast that complements the mildly spiced fish.
Once cooked, the fish is broken into large pieces and assembled in corn or flour tortillas, topped generously with the slaw. Together, the components create a balanced texture and flavor profile ideal for casual meals.
For added heat, cayenne pepper can be mixed into the fish seasoning. Leftover fish and slaw can be stored separately in airtight containers and kept refrigerated for up to four days.
Ingredients
For the Fish
- 4-5 White fish fillets boneless and skinless, (cod or tilapia is my preference)
- 2 Tablespoons lime juice fresh
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper ground
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- corn tortilla for serving, or flour tortillas
For the Cilantro Lime Slaw
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 Tablespoons lime juice fresh
- 1 teaspoon sugar granulated white
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 2 Tablespoons cilantro chopped
- 1 Tablespoon green onion chopped
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 370 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes and spray the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray.
- Add the fish to a clean work surface and drizzle the lime juice and olive oil over top. Sprinkle both sides of the the fish with the salt, pepper, cumin, and paprika, and rub it in.
- Add the fish to the air fryer basket and cook for 7-9 minutes or until cooked through. The fish should flake easily with a fork. Remove from the air fryer and cut into large pieces.
- While the fish is cooking, make the coleslaw by whisking the mayonnaise, lime juice, sugar, garlic powder, salt, and pepper together in a large bowl. Toss in the coleslaw mix, chopped cilantro, and green onions. Set aside.
- To assemble your air fryer fish tacos, fill tortillas with the a few pieces of cooked fish, then top with as much of the slaw as you like. Enjoy!
Notes
- Preheat the air fryer to ensure the fish cooks evenly and develops a slight crisp.
- Adjust cooking time based on fish fillet thickness; thicker pieces may need longer.
- For a spicy version, add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper to the seasoning mix.
- Store leftover fish and slaw separately in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 4 days to maintain freshness.
