Description
Air Fryer Korean Pork Belly begins with pork belly trimmed of skin and coated thoroughly with a mixture of mild American yellow mustard and fine sea salt. This coating helps season the meat while developing a slight tangy crust. The pork is air fried at 180°C (356°F) for 15 minutes on one side, then flipped to cook another 15 minutes, allowing the meat to crisp evenly and cook through.
The resulting pork belly has a rich flavor with a balance of tang from mustard and salt seasoning. The texture combines crispy edges and tender, juicy pork inside due to the fat rendering. This method avoids excess oil as the air fryer drains fat while crisping the meat.
After cooking, the pork is sliced into bite-sized pieces that can be easily wrapped in lettuce leaves or eaten with dipping sauces. Accompanying staples such as Korean ssamjang sauce, steamed rice, and kimchi complete the meal with contrasting spicy, fresh, and savory notes fitting traditional Korean barbecue style.
Ingredients
- 800 g pork belly , skinless (1.8 pounds)
- 1/4 cup yellow mustard , (American mustard, mild)
- 1 tsp salt fine sea salt
Instructions
- Combine the mustard sauce and the salt in a small bowl. Mix well. Paste all sides of the pork belly with the mustard sauce mixture.
- Place the meat onto the air fryer basket and cook at 180 C / 356 F for 15 minutes.
- Wipe the oil in the air fryer pan with some kitchen paper. Flip the meat over and cook for another 15 mins.
- Remove the pork belly from the air fryer. Slice them into bite sized pieces. Serve with lettuce, Korean BBQ dipping sauce (ssamjang), a bowl of rice and kimchi.
