Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket
Description
Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket feature 24 small smoked sausages individually wrapped in crescent roll dough cut into thin slices. Cooking in the air fryer at 390°F crisps the dough exterior, while the sausage inside remains juicy and flavorful. The recipe involves toasting the dough around the sausage securely to avoid unrolling during cooking.
The method uses a simple cut-and-roll technique with canned crescent dough, providing a tender pastry texture once air fried. It is quick to assemble and cook, with visual cues of golden brown tops and cooked-through dough.
These pastries can be served warm with condiments such as ketchup and mustard. The compact size makes them suitable as finger foods for parties or casual meals.
Options include substituting hot dogs or puff pastry, with adjustments in dough size and cooking time noted. Wrapped but uncooked pigs can be refrigerated for later air frying, and leftovers store well refrigerated for a few days. Reheating in the air fryer or oven restores the crisp pastry texture better than microwaving.
Ingredients
- 8 ounce crescent rolls can
- 24 smoked sausage Lit’l Smokies brand
Instructions
- Unroll the crescent rolls and place on the cutting board. Cut each crescent roll into three pieces the long way so you have 24 slices of crescent roll dough.
- Place a Lit’l Smokie on the widest end of the crescent roll dough. Then roll up. Repeat until all Lit’l Smokies are wrapped.
- Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
- Place each pig in a blanket in the basket leaving about 1’’ of room on the sides. You may have to do these in multiple batches.
- Set the air fryer to 390 degrees Fahrenheit and cook for 5-8 minutes or until tops are browned and dough is cooked through.
- Remove and serve with ketchup and mustard or favorite toppings.
Notes
- Hot dogs can replace little smokies but may need cutting to fit the dough or wrapping in a larger dough triangle, increasing cooking time.
- Puff pastry can substitute crescent dough if thawed and sliced similarly, though cooking time may differ.
- Wrapped sausages can be prepared ahead and refrigerated, with longer air frying needed if cooked from cold.
- Leftovers keep in an airtight container refrigerated for several days and reheat best in an air fryer or oven to maintain crispness.
