Air Fryer Pigs in Blanket
Description
This recipe prepares Pigs in Blanket by rolling chipolata sausages with bacon cut in half lengthwise. The bacon crisps during air frying, while the sausages cook through, creating a compact, meaty snack or appetizer. The air fryer ensures even cooking and a crispy texture without excess oil.
The flavor is smoky with the rich saltiness of bacon wrapped around juicy sausage. The cooking method produces a golden exterior and a tender sausage center. Slicing the bacon in half around the sausage balances bacon-to-sausage ratio, allowing the bacon to cook fully and crispen without overpowering.
These are suitable for gatherings or snacking and pairs well with dipping sauces or as finger food. Variations include using gluten-free sausages or turkey bacon for adjustments in dietary preferences. Maple syrup glaze or honey mustard can enhance the flavor before final cooking.
Cooking times may vary by air fryer model; an additional two minutes can help if sausages aren't fully cooked. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to allow air circulation and crisping. Using chipolata sausages cut in half is a cost-saving alternative to cocktail sausages during peak season.
Ingredients
- 4 rasher streaky bacon
- 8 chipolata sausage
Instructions
- Slice the bacon in half.
- Place the sausages at one end of each of the bacon rashers.
- Roll the bacon around the sausages.
- Spray the air fryer basket with some oil and place the pigs in blankets into it. Cook at 180°C/350℉ for 8 minutes.
Notes
- Ensure sausages are gluten-free for a gluten-free version.
- Chipolata sausages can be halved to substitute pricier cocktail sausages.
- Quorn cocktail sausages and turkey bacon are lighter alternatives but change texture and flavor.
- Brush with maple syrup before cooking for added sweetness and glaze.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer to allow proper air circulation and crisping.
- Air fryer cooking times may vary; add 2 minutes if sausages need further cooking.
- For honey and mustard glaze, brush mixture on about 2 minutes before cooking ends.
