Air Fryer Pizza Puffs

Air Fryer Pizza Puffs are bite-sized, crescent dough triangles filled with pepperoni and shredded mozzarella cheese, then crisped in the air fryer until golden. These handheld snacks offer a crispy outside with warm, melted cheese and savory pepperoni inside. They are a convenient appetizer or snack that can be paired with pizza sauce for dipping.

Description

Using crescent roll dough stretched and cut into triangles, pizza puffs are filled with small pieces of pepperoni and shredded mozzarella, carefully sealed to keep the filling inside. Spraying both sides with cooking spray ensures a golden, crisp exterior when cooked in the air fryer at 400 °F for a couple of minutes.

The result is a crispy, lightly chewy dough with a melty cheese center and flavorful pepperoni scattered throughout. The air fryer cooks them quickly without needing to heat a large oven, making them convenient for small batches. Serving with pizza sauce adds a familiar tomato tang to complement the savory filling.

These pizza puffs can be reheated later in the air fryer to regain crispness, with instructions provided for oven and microwave reheating as well. Variations include using gluten-free dough or dairy-free cheese to accommodate dietary needs.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 crescent roll dough sheet 8-oz. can, 226g
  • 32 lices pepperoni turkey, 56g
  • 3/4 cup mozzarella cheese 2% shredded, 84g
  • pizza sauce optional for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat air fryer to 400 °F.
  2. Cut pepperoni slices into quarters and set aside.
  3. Lay a piece of parchment paper out on the counter top (big enough to spread the dough sheet) and stretch out the dough sheet as much you can without breaking the dough. I used a roller for this but you don't need to.
  4. Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut dough into 12 triangles.
  5. Add pepperoni to center of each triangle (about 5g each), then shredded cheese (7g each).
  6. Keeping the pepperoni and cheese in the dough, fold up so that they both stay secured in the dough. Then flatten out with hands to spread the puff out more.
  7. Spray pizza puffs on both sides with cooking spray then add to the air fryer so that none of them are touching (I had to do it in two batches). Cook for about 2 minutes or until puffs are golden brown.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes then serve with pizza sauce and enjoy!

Notes

  • These pizza puffs can be made gluten-free by using gluten-free crescent roll dough.
  • Dairy-free cheese substitutes can be used to make these suitable for dairy-free diets.
  • Reheat pizza puffs in the air fryer at 400°F for 2-3 minutes to restore crispness.
  • Oven reheating takes about 6-7 minutes at 400°F, while microwaving requires about 30 seconds covered with a damp paper towel.
