Air Fryer Salmon Recipe with Maple Soy Glaze

This recipe features wild salmon fillets marinated in a maple syrup, soy sauce, sriracha, and garlic mixture, then cooked in an air fryer until tender and flaky. The marinade is reduced into a thick glaze that is spooned over the salmon before serving, adding sweet, savory, and slightly spicy notes. Cooking in the air fryer yields moist salmon with a caramelized exterior without needing to flip.

Description

The Air Fryer Salmon is prepared by marinating skinless wild salmon fillets in a blend of pure maple syrup, soy sauce, sriracha hot sauce, and smashed garlic. After marinating for 15-20 minutes (or as little as 5 minutes if short on time), the fish is air fried at 400°F for 7 to 8 minutes depending on thickness. The air fryer basket is lightly oiled or lined with parchment to prevent sticking, and the salmon cooks from both sides without flipping.

While the salmon cooks, the marinade is simmered in a saucepan until it thickens into a glaze. This glaze is spooned over the salmon before eating, providing a balance of sweet, salty, and spicy flavors that complement the rich fish. The salmon should be opaque with slight translucency in the center and flake easily when done.

This method offers a convenient way to cook salmon quickly without preheating or stove-top attention. Checking doneness can be done by observing color change and testing flakiness. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.

For best results, use propellant-free oil sprays or parchment to keep salmon from sticking. The recipe allows for a skillet alternative if an air fryer is unavailable.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 3 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce or gluten-free soy sauce, reduced sodium
  • 1 tbsp sriracha hot sauce (use less if you don't like heat)
  • 1 clove garlic (smashed)
  • 4 wild salmon skinless (6 oz each, fillets

Instructions

  1. Combine maple syrup, soy sauce, sriracha and garlic in a small bowl, pour into a gallon sized resealable bag and add the salmon.
  2. Use this skillet version if you don't have an air fryer.
  3. Marinate 15 to 20 minutes, turning once in a while. If you don't have time, 5 minutes will still be enough.
  4. Lightly spray the basket with oil spray to prevent sticking or use air fryer parchment.
  5. Remove the fish from the marinade, reserving and pat dry with paper towels.
  6. Place the fish in the air fryer, in batches, air fry 400F 7 to 8 minutes, or longer depending on thickness of the salmon.
  7. Meanwhile, pour the marinade in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat and reduce until it thickens into a glaze, 1 to 2 minutes, careful not to dry it out. Spoon over salmon just before eating.

Notes

  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with an oil free of propellants or use parchment to prevent sticking.
  • Preheating the air fryer is unnecessary for this salmon recipe.
  • Do not overcrowd the basket to ensure proper air circulation and even cooking.
  • No need to flip the salmon; it cooks evenly on both sides in the air fryer.
  • Check doneness by looking for an opaque surface with slight translucency in the center and flakiness when tested with a fork after 6 to 8 minutes.
