Air Fryer Sweet and Spicy Wings

Air Fryer Sweet and Spicy Wings are coated with a dry rub of chili, cumin, garlic, onion, salt, and pepper, air-fried to crisp skin, then tossed in an Asian-inspired honey-lime hot sauce. This method yields wings that balance spice, sweetness, and tang with a crispy exterior.

Description

This recipe seasons chicken wings with a dry spice mix containing chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. After marinating for 20-30 minutes, the wings cook in an air fryer at 380°F, turning halfway for even crisping, then finish at 400°F for extra crispness. The dry rub flavors are concentrated in the crispy skin while keeping the interior juicy.

The accompanying sweet and spicy sauce combines honey, lime juice, cornstarch, hot sauce, butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and salt. Heating these ingredients thickens the sauce, which then coats the wings for a sticky, balanced finish blending sweet, spicy, and tangy notes.

The wings can be served with ranch, garlic aioli, or blue cheese dressing, providing creamy contrast to the spicy-sweet glaze. This cooking approach yields a flavorful appetizer or snack using the speed and convenience of an air fryer.

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper ground

Asian Sweet and Spicy Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon corn starch
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce Tobasco or sriricha
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with cooking spray and set aside.

  4. After 24 minutes, increase the temperature of air-fryer to 400*F and again air-fry for 6 minutes, so that the outer layer of wings turns crispy.
  5. Meanwhile prepare the sweet & spicy hot sauce. Add all the ingredients given for sweet & spicy hot sauce in a small microwave safe bowl and heat for 2 minutes. Whisk well to mix.
  6. Once the chicken wings are air-fried, transfer it to a large bowl along with few teaspoons of prepared sweet & spicy hot sauce. Toss to coat well. Serve with ranch dressing, garlic aioli, or blue cheese dressing.
