Air Fryer Tortilla Chips
Description
This Air Fryer Tortilla Chips recipe starts with corn tortillas brushed evenly with a blend of olive oil, lime juice, paprika, salt, and black pepper, adding brightness and subtle spice. Cutting the tortillas into uniform triangles encourages even cooking, essential for consistent crispness. Air frying at a moderate temperature for about six minutes crisps the chips quickly without excess oil absorption. The chips develop a lightly curled, crisp edge while maintaining a sturdy crunch useful for dipping.
The lime juice in the oil mix provides a fresh, tangy note contrasting nicely with the smoky paprika and savory seasoning. The air fryer method offers a lighter alternative to traditional frying, reducing fat and cleanup effort. Cooling the chips on a wire rack after cooking allows them to firm up further for optimal crunch. Making multiple batches is handled by cooking in single layers, avoiding overcrowding for uniform hot air circulation.
These chips go well with dips, salsas, or as a base for nachos. Because of the simple coating, you can easily adjust seasoning levels or swap the paprika for other spices to vary flavor. Ensuring the oil coats just the surface prevents soggy results and helps crispness.
Ingredients
- 8 corn tortillas
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 0.5 lime juice only
- 1 pinch sea salt
- 1 pinch black pepper
- 0.5 teaspoon paprika
Instructions
- Mix together 1 tablespoon Olive oil, juice of 0.5 Lime, 0.5 teaspoon Paprika and 1 pinch Sea salt and ground black pepper.
- Brush 8 Corn tortillas with the oil mixture. Cut them into 8 triangles each.
- Lay them in the air fryer basket in a single layer. We got 7 in ours, but this will depend on the size of you air fryer basket.
- Cook them for 6 minutes at 170°C/340℉.
Notes
- Use spray oil instead of brushing to reduce calories and ensure even coating.
- Coat whole tortillas with the oil mixture before cutting to simplify preparation.
- Cut all triangles to similar sizes to ensure even cooking and avoid burning smaller pieces.
- Cook chips in a single layer in the air fryer; batch size depends on your air fryer basket capacity.
- Once cooked, transfer chips to a wire rack to cool—this helps them crisp up further.
- Cooking times may vary based on air fryer model; watch carefully to reach desired crispness.
- Some curling or movement of chips during cooking is normal due to hot air circulation.
