Description
This American Flag Cake starts with a traditional batter of creamed butter and sugar, eggs, vanilla, and milk combined with flour, baking powder, and salt to create a light, fluffy cake base. The batter is baked evenly in a 9x13 inch pan to provide a flat surface for decorating. After cooling, a generous layer of Cool Whip is spread over the cake to provide a light, creamy topping that contrasts with the denser cake.
The fresh fruit topping is carefully arranged after drying to avoid excess moisture. Blueberries fill the top left corner representing the stars, while halved strawberries form red stripes against the white Cool Whip background, creating a visually striking American flag symbol. Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter unsalted
- 1 1/3 cups sugar
- 4 large egg white
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk whole
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 16 ounces Cool Whip , recipe
- 1 pint blueberries
- 2 pounds strawberries , halved
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and butter and flour a 9x13 rectangular pan.
- To your stand mixer add the butter and sugar and beat them together until light and fluffy on medium speed, 2-3 minutes, then add in the eggs one at a time 15 seconds apart along with the vanilla then lower the speed to low and add the milk until smooth.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt then add to the stand mixer on low speed until just combined.
- Pour into the rectangular pan and bake, shake gently back and forth to make sure the batter is evenly distributed and cook for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Once cooled, spread cool whip over the top.
- Dry your fruit very well with a paper towel, place blueberries in top left corner, and arrange strawberries in stripes.
