Amish Man Bars

Amish Man Bars are rich, chewy dessert bars featuring a mix of graham cracker crumbs, mini chocolate chips, toasted pecans, shredded sweetened coconut, vanilla, and sweetened condensed milk. Baked until set and lightly golden, these bars are coated generously with confectioners sugar for added sweetness and a slightly powdery finish. They make easy-to-serve treats for casual dessert occasions.

Description

The bars are made by combining graham cracker crumbs, mini chocolate chips, toasted chopped pecans, shredded sweetened coconut, vanilla extract, and a can of sweetened condensed milk into a uniform mixture. This mixture is pressed into a parchment-lined and greased 8x8-inch pan to distribute evenly. Baking at 350°F until the bars are set and lightly golden on top ensures a chewy yet firm texture.

Once cooled completely, the bars are sliced into 16 squares and each piece is coated thickly with sifted confectioners sugar. This sugar coating adds a soft sweetness that complements the rich filling. The combination of textures includes crunchy pecan pieces and soft coconut shreds within a chewy base.

Amish Man Bars can be stored at room temperature for up to one week, making them convenient for making ahead or serving over several days as a snack or dessert.

Ingredients

Servings

for the bars

  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup pecan toasted, chopped
  • 1/2 cup coconut sweetened shredded
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 14 ounce sweetened condensed milk can

for the coating

  • 1 cup confectioners sugar sifted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Spray and line an 8x8 square baking pan with parchment paper leaving long ends so you can lift the bars out after baking.
  2. Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl until everything is completely combined.
  3. Spread into your prepared pan, taking care to get the mixture evenly spread out. I like to use an offset spatula, which you can moisten if you like to prevent sticking.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes until set and lightly golden on top.
  5. Let the bars cool completely, then slice into 16 squares. Note: I like to trim the edges off first to make neater squares.
  6. Coat each bar thickly with the confectioner's sugar.
  7. The bars will keep for up to a week at room temperature.
