Angel Food Cake Berry Trifle
Description
The Angel Food Cake Berry Trifle combines sliced strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries with tender cubes of angel food cake. The berries are first macerated with granulated sugar to soften them and enhance their flavor. A vanilla pudding made from instant mix is layered with freshly whipped cream flavored with vanilla and powdered sugar, creating a creamy, sweet contrast to the fruit and cake. The layers are assembled in a trifle bowl, alternating cake, berries, pudding, and whipped cream to build a visually appealing and textured dessert.
The trifle is best served chilled, allowing the flavors to meld and the cake to absorb some moisture without becoming soggy. The fresh berries provide bursts of tartness balanced by the sweetness of the pudding and fluffy cream. Garnishing with mint or an additional whole strawberry adds a bright note. This dessert works well for gatherings where a light, fruity finish is desired.
The recipe notes mention that if a large pudding mix box is unavailable, two smaller 3-ounce packages with a total of 3 cups milk can substitute, resulting in a thicker pudding layer. Preparing the pudding and cream ahead helps streamline assembly and ensures a well-set dessert.

- 6 ounces blackberry
- 18 ounces blueberries

- Repeat the layers once again. Finish the trifle by topping it with the remaining berries and a sprig of mint and/or a whole strawberry.

- Macerate strawberries with sugar for at least 15 minutes to enhance their sweetness and soften texture.
- Chill the trifle before serving to allow flavors to blend and the cake to absorb some cream and pudding moisture.
