Apple Cobbler
Description
This Apple Cobbler uses peeled, cored, and sliced apples tossed in a cinnamon and sugar mix before being placed in a baking dish. A separate topping is made from combined dry ingredients and eggs, forming coarse crumbs that are sprinkled evenly over the apple filling. Melted butter is drizzled over the topping before baking at 350°F until the topping is golden and the apples are tender.
The resulting dessert has a soft apple base with balanced sweetness and spice, contrasted by a warm, buttery, and slightly crisp topping. Cinnamon flavor ties the filling and topping together. It is traditionally served warm and can be topped with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream for added richness and temperature contrast.
Recommended apple varieties for baking include Granny Smith, Jonagold, Golden Delicious, Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Braeburn, Pink Lady, and McIntosh. These varieties provide a good balance of sweetness and acidity and hold texture well during baking.
