Apple Cobbler

Apple Cobbler features sliced tart Granny Smith apples sweetened with sugar and cinnamon, baked under a crumbly topping made of flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, eggs, and melted butter. The result is a golden, tender topping over juicy, spiced apple filling, ideal for serving warm with ice cream or caramel sauce.

Description

The recipe starts by peeling and slicing large Granny Smith apples into quarter-inch slices. The apples are then tossed with sugar and ground cinnamon to balance their tartness and add warming spice notes. This apple mixture is spread in a baking dish and acts as a juicy, flavorful filling once cooked.

The topping is prepared by stirring together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and eggs until it resembles coarse crumbs, then drizzling melted butter over it before spreading the mixture atop the apples. Baking at 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes develops a golden brown crust with a soft crumb that contrasts with the tender cooked apples beneath.

After baking, the cobbler is cooled for around 10 minutes before serving to allow the filling to set slightly. It is traditionally enjoyed with accompaniments like ice cream or caramel sauce, which add creaminess and extra sweetness, complementing the fruit's tartness and the rich topping.
