Apple Crisp
Description
This Apple Crisp recipe uses peeled, cored, and sliced Granny Smith apples combined with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice to maintain brightness and balance sweetness. The spiced apples are placed in a baking dish and covered with a crumbly topping made from old-fashioned rolled oats, brown sugar, flour, melted butter, and optional pecans for texture and nutty flavor.
Baked at 350°F for 35-40 minutes, the crisp topping turns golden brown while the apples soften but retain some shape, offering tender fruit contrast to the crunchy topping. The cinnamon and nutmeg seasoning adds warmth and depth, enhancing the dessert's autumnal profile.
Apple Crisp is typically served warm, often accompanied by vanilla ice cream, which adds a creamy coolness that contrasts with the spiced warmth of the baked apples and topping. It delivers a cozy, rustic dessert that highlights fruit and spice in a satisfying combination.
