Apple Crisp

This apple crisp features sliced Fuji or Granny Smith apples baked under a crumbly topping made from oats, brown sugar, flour, and butter. The apples are tossed with sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon before baking, creating a balance of tartness and sweetness. Baking until the topping is golden and the apples are soft yields a warm dessert with tender fruit beneath a crunchy, buttery crisp.

Description

Apple Crisp is made by peeling and slicing tart or sweet apples, then coating them evenly with sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon to add brightness and spice. The fruit is spread into a baking dish and topped with a mixture of oats, brown sugar, flour, and a pinch of salt, combined with butter cut into cubes and blended to a crumbly texture. The topping provides a textured contrast with its oat-filled, buttery crumbles.

When baked at 375°F for about 40 minutes, the apples soften and release juices, while the topping crisps and browns, creating a dessert with tender, juicy fruit beneath a toasted oat crust. The lemon juice helps prevent browning of the apples and adds a mild tang that balances the sweetness.

This apple crisp can be served warm on its own or paired with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra richness. It is a straightforward fruit dessert ideal for seasonal apples. The size of the baking dish (8-10 inches) suits this volume of fruit and topping for even cooking and presentation.
