Apple Crisp Recipe

Apple Crisp is a baked dessert featuring tender, cinnamon-spiced apple slices covered with a crisp topping made of flour, oats, sugars, and butter. The combination of juicy apples and a golden, crumbly topping creates a balance of soft and crunchy textures and warm autumnal flavors.

Description

The recipe uses firm, crisp apples such as Golden Delicious or Granny Smith, peeled, cored, and sliced thinly before being tossed with lemon juice, sugar, flour, and cinnamon. This mixture forms the sweet and spiced fruit base that becomes tender during baking.

The topping is made by blending flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, salt, and diced butter by hand until pea-sized crumbs are formed. Spread evenly over the apple mixture, it bakes to a golden crisp that contrasts the soft fruit beneath.

Apple Crisp is baked at 375°F until the topping is golden and the apples are bubbling at the edges. It can be enjoyed fresh or stored covered on the counter for a day, refrigerated for 3 to 5 days, or frozen up to three months. Reheat in the oven before serving. Variations include adding nuts or dried cranberries to the topping or spices like cloves or nutmeg to complement the apples. Caramel sauce can be drizzled on top for extra richness.
