Apple Crumble (Apple Crisp)

Apple Crumble features a layer of sliced apples tossed with sugar, cinnamon, and flour, topped with a crumbly mixture of oats, flour, sugars, cinnamon, salt, baking powder, and melted butter. Baking yields tender, spiced apples beneath a golden, crisp topping, providing a comforting dessert with contrasting textures.

Description

The apple filling combines peeled, cored, and sliced apples coated in granulated and brown sugar, a touch of flour, and cinnamon, then mixed with water to distribute flavors evenly. The crumb topping blends oats with flour, sugars, cinnamon, salt, and baking powder, held together with melted butter. The topping’s combination of rolled oats and flour creates a crisp yet slightly chewy texture once baked.

Baking at 350°F allows the apples to soften while the crumble topping crisps and turns golden. The warm spices highlight the fruit’s natural sweetness without overpowering, making this dessert both flavorful and textured. It is well-suited as a cozy seasonal dessert, especially in cooler months.

Apple Crumble is delightful served warm with cold vanilla ice cream or warm custard to add creamy contrast. This classic British dessert balances softness and crunch, sweetness and subtle spice, making it a familiar and satisfying treat.
