Apple Crumble Recipe
Description
The recipe starts with peeled and thinly sliced Granny Smith apples mixed with brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch to create a thickened, sweet filling. The topping combines melted butter with brown sugar, all-purpose flour, and baking powder to form a crumbly mixture chilled before spreading atop the apples. Baking at 350°F for 35-40 minutes yields a bubbling filling and a golden crisp topping.
The cooked apple filling is tender with a pleasantly tart note from the Granny Smith apples, while the topping offers a light crunch and caramel-like sweetness. Serving the crumble warm with optional vanilla ice cream adds creaminess and balance. This dessert suits home dinners or small gatherings as a comforting fruit treat.
Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen for a couple of months if tightly wrapped to preserve freshness and texture. This storage guidance helps maintain the quality of the crumble between servings.
Ingredients
Filling
- 7 cups apple peeled and thinly sliced, Granny Smith variety
- ½ cup brown sugar packed
- 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 Tablespoon cornstarch
Topping
- ½ cup butter melted
- ¾ cup brown sugar packed
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- vanilla ice cream optional, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 inch pan and set aside.

- Peel and thinly slice the apples. Place apples in a large mixing bowl with cinnamon, brown sugar and cornstarch. Toss to combine.
- Dump the apple mixture into a prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer. Remove the topping from the refrigerator and evenly drop by spoonful on top of the apple mixture in the baking dish.
- Place apple crumble in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 35-40 minutes, until the topping is golden brown, the apples are tender and juices are bubbling around the edges.
- Allow to cool slightly and serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.
Notes
- Store leftovers tightly wrapped or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- Freeze well-wrapped crumble for 2 to 3 months to retain texture and flavor.
