Apple Dumplings
Description
Apple Dumplings start with peeled, cored, and sliced Granny Smith apples, which offer a tart contrast to the sweet glaze. Each apple slice is rolled in crescent roll dough and placed in a baking dish. A mixture of melted butter, sugar, and vanilla is poured evenly over the dumplings, and soda like Mountain Dew or Sprite is added around the edges to create a bubbling syrup during baking. Cinnamon sprinkled on top provides a warm spice note.
Baked at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 to 45 minutes, the dumplings develop a golden brown crust while the apples soften inside. Serving with ice cream enhances the dessert with creamy coolness, pairing well with the warm sauce. The soda in the recipe lends a distinctive caramel flavor that complements the cinnamon and vanilla elements.
