Apple Dumplings

These Apple Dumplings feature quartered Granny Smith apples wrapped individually in crescent roll dough, baked with a cinnamon brown sugar syrup that infuses sweetness and warmth. The combination of tender apples and flaky golden pastry delivers a comforting dessert with a cinnamon-spiced syrup glaze. Serving with vanilla ice cream adds a creamy balance to the sweet and tart flavors.

Description

Apple Dumplings use crisp Granny Smith apples cut into quarters and sprinkled with cinnamon before being wrapped in crescent roll dough. The dumplings are arranged in a baking dish, then covered with a cinnamon brown sugar syrup made from brown sugar, water, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and thickened with cornstarch. Baking at 350°F for about 35 minutes softens the apples and bakes the pastry to a golden brown. The result is a tender, spiced dessert with a sticky sweet syrup coating. Serving the warm dumplings with vanilla ice cream adds a cool, creamy contrast.

This recipe can be prepared ahead and stored in the refrigerator for 4-5 days, reheating to enjoy warm. They also freeze well up to 3 months, and can be cooked from frozen to serve later. This makes the dish convenient for make-ahead dessert options.

  • Use Granny Smith apples for their tartness and firmness, which hold shape well during baking.
  • Serving with vanilla ice cream complements the warm, spiced flavors.
