Apple Dumplings
Description
Apple Dumplings use crisp Granny Smith apples cut into quarters and sprinkled with cinnamon before being wrapped in crescent roll dough. The dumplings are arranged in a baking dish, then covered with a cinnamon brown sugar syrup made from brown sugar, water, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and thickened with cornstarch. Baking at 350°F for about 35 minutes softens the apples and bakes the pastry to a golden brown. The result is a tender, spiced dessert with a sticky sweet syrup coating. Serving the warm dumplings with vanilla ice cream adds a cool, creamy contrast.
This recipe can be prepared ahead and stored in the refrigerator for 4-5 days, reheating to enjoy warm. They also freeze well up to 3 months, and can be cooked from frozen to serve later. This makes the dish convenient for make-ahead dessert options.
