  • 2 cups confectioner's sugar 250g, powdered
  • 2 tablespoons butter at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons applesauce puree if necessary, at room temperature, smooth
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract pure

Note: this is enough for the top and sides of a layer cake; double the recipe to also frost the sides.

Instructions

  1. First, ensure that your applesauce is smooth. If yours isn't, then briefly puree it with an immersion blender (hand held stick blender).
  2. Also, ensure the applesauce and butter are at room temperature.
  3. Add the butter, apple sauce and vanilla to a mixing bowl, and beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
  4. Sift in the powdered confectioner's sugar a little at a time, beating until thick, smooth, and creamy.
  5. TIP: If necessary, add a little more powdered sugar to thicken, or a tablespoon of milk to thin.
  6. Store it covered in the refrigerator until you're ready to use it.

  • Use room temperature butter to ensure the frosting blends smoothly and evenly.
  • If butter is too cold, soften it quickly by grating and letting it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  • Adjust frosting thickness by adding extra powdered sugar to thicken or a tablespoon of milk to thin, depending on your application.
