Apple Pandowdy Recipe
Description
Apple Pandowdy Recipe highlights the combination of tart Granny Smith apples with aromatic spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg, baked beneath a soft batter topping. The apples are first steamed under foil with molasses to infuse sweetness and moisture. Then a simple batter made from all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, melted butter, milk, and egg is spooned over the softened apples and baked until the topping is golden and set.
The resulting dessert has a moist apple base with a tender, cakey layer on top, slightly sweet with warm molasses notes and cinnamon spice. The method ensures the apples are cooked but retain structure while the batter develops a gentle rise and light crumb.
This dish can be enjoyed hot and is commonly served with whipped cream or ice cream to complement the warm flavors and moist texture. Its rustic nature makes it suitable for casual serving straight from the baking dish or inverted to showcase the apple side.
Notes advise peeling the apples for smoother texture but it is optional. Nutritional values are approximate due to variability in ingredient data and calculation methods.
