Apple Pie

Apple Pie features a buttery crust filled with tart Granny Smith apples coated in a cinnamon-spiced sugar and butter glaze. The apples are tossed in a sweet sauce made from melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon, then baked beneath a lattice crust brushed with egg wash and sprinkled with coarse sugar for a crisp, shiny finish. This pie balances tartness and sweetness, and its flaky crust contrasts with the tender, juicy filling, making it a classic dessert.

Description

The Apple Pie recipe uses a double 9-inch pie crust, forming a solid base and a decorative lattice top that allows steam to escape while baking. The filling comprises peeled, cored, and thinly sliced Granny Smith apples mixed in a warm butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon mixture, which thickens slightly due to flour. After assembling, an egg wash brushed on the lattice and coarse sugar sprinkled over gives the crust an appealing color and texture. Baking begins at a high temperature to set the crust's shape, then lowers to ensure even cooking and a tender filling. The combination of tart apples with the sweet and spiced filling creates a classic balance that defines this traditional dessert.

Apple Pie pairs well as a dessert with coffee, tea, or vanilla ice cream. It is suitable for holidays, gatherings, or whenever a comforting traditional dessert is desired. The lattice crust adds a visual appeal and allows the filling's aroma to fill the kitchen during baking.

The recipe does not specify cooling or storage tips, but typical advice includes letting the pie cool before slicing to allow the filling to set. Refrigeration can preserve leftovers, but the crust may lose crispness over time.
