  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter cold and cubed, unsalted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 medium apple
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats old-fashioned
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter cold and cubed, unsalted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups flour, salt, 3/4 cup cubed butter, the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until crumbly. Press two-thirds of the mixture into the prepared pan to form a firm base.
  3. Peel and thinly slice apples until you have 4 cups. Toss with cinnamon and nutmeg and spread over the crust. Top with the remaining dough.
  4. Mix the oats, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup flour, and 1/4 cup cubed butter to make the topping. Sprinkle this over the top of the apples and dough.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Cool before cutting into bars.
